This is shown in the “Hochschul-Bildungs-Report” (University Education Report) 2020 published by the Stifterverband in cooperation with McKinsey&Company. Changing requirements and forms of work combined with a shortage of skilled labour have created a skills gap. This gap can be closed with consistent professional development. A survey of managers conducted by the McKinsey Global Institute in 2018 confirms that 75% of the participants are convinced that the qualification of existing employees will close at least half of the existing qualification gap. As a result, companies in Germany plan to expand the amount of continuing vocational training per employee by one third in 5 years and to increase the number of training days from the current 3.7 to 5.
